Part of the town was plunged into darkness just after 4.30pm. A Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman confirmed that 812 properties have been affected by the outage. “Engineers are on site and we hope to have the power restored by 7pm,” he said. A full investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the problem.
