Perth-based employees of insurance giants Aviva are bracing themselves after the company announced it was slashing its workforce.
Staff were left stunned after the company announced that over the next six months they will be cutting around 2,000 jobs across the group’s operations in the UK, Europe and Asia around 6% of the total workforce.
Aviva are one of the biggest employers in Perth and Kinross.
The company employs around 1,400 workers, operating from their Pitheavlis premises the former world headquarters of General Accident.
Perth and Kinross Council leader Ian Miller said: “This will be worrying news for all local employees of Aviva.
“Perth and Kinross Council has a very good working relationship with Aviva and we will seek to clarify with the company what this announcement means for its Perth operation.
“The council will do all we can to ensure that the company keeps jobs here in Perth and Kinross through constructive discussion with management.”
