An ambitious blueprint for the development of Perth and Kinross, which will have a significant jobs spin-off, has been unveiled.
The 10-year community plan aims to tackle inequalities in the area in a bid to ensure everyone is given the same opportunities in life.
At the heart of the proposals is taking a preventative approach to “breaking the cycle” of unemployment, substance misuse and crime by creating up to 600 jobs each year.
The document boldly claims it will address the root causes of poverty “once and for all” by encouraging investment and new employment opportunities, as well as removing barriers to employment.
Over the next decade, Perth and Kinross Council plans to go in to the classroom to give future generations a fighting chance of living a life free of the restrictions and problems endured by their parents.
Young people will be given the opportunity to develop essential skills as part of efforts to ensure they can go on to enjoy a positive future.
The draft report, which is under consideration, claims to offer a “unique” response to challenges facing the local authority area by working directly with communities.
The community plan states: “Our vision is of a confident and ambitious Perth and Kinross, to which everyone can contribute and in which all can share.
“Through our strategic objectives, we aim to maximise the opportunities available to our citizens to achieve their potential.”
