A search is under way to find the family of a man whose body was found in remote woods in Highland Perthshire.
Police have confirmed the grisly find in a woodland area beside the Loch of the Lowes nature reserve, near Dunkeld, on Thursday at 10am was that of a man.
Police are now liaising with other forces nationwide to try to establish his identification.
It’s understood he is not from the local area and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The man’s body is believed to have lain for some time.
A police spokesman told The Courier that the body has been taken to the mortuary in Dundee where a post-mortem will be carried out.
Police pathologists will be carrying out a series of tests to try to solve the mystery of the man’s identification. Officers will also be looking at how the body came to be in the remote woodlands and how long it was there.
A walker made the grim discovery of the body in woodland near the Loch of the Lowes nature reserve on Thursday and contacted the police.
As a result, the area was immediately cordoned off and treated as a potential crime scene.
The idyllic area beside the loch became a hive of police activity on Thursday following the discovery.
The cordon was lifted on Friday.
