Safer Communities wardens are to begin operating throughout east Perthshire, thanks to an expansion of the scheme.
The wardens already operate in Rattray, but will now be detailed to carry out additional patrols in Blairgowrie town centre, Alyth and Coupar Angus.
Though the Rattray patrols will continue, the wardens will travel to the other areas from time-to-time to address specific problems.
Safer Communities wardens operate seven days a week in Perth’s Letham, Hillyland, Muirton and North Muirton areas, as well as in Rattray.
They patrol their areas on foot every evening, including weekends.
Community safety convener Councillor Douglas Pover welcomed the expansion, saying: “It makes sense to make full use of our Safer Communities wardens.
“If there is an issue in an area outside of Rattray, then they will be able to visit that area to see if they can help local residents to address that issue.
“The wardens will continue to have a presence in Rattray, where I know they are appreciated by residents and this change in operations should not impact negatively on Rattray.
“It will, however, have a positive impact for residents of other areas of East Perthshire, who can now benefit from the services of the wardens, if required.”
