Good news following a day of torrential rain Scotland is set to bask in sunshine this weekend, with the east coast expected to be as warm as Majorca.
It may be hard to believe after Friday’s deluge caused localised flooding across Tayside and Fife, but experts predict the best weather so far this year will arrive in time for the bank holiday weekend.
Temperatures could creep up to around 16C on Sunday equal to the Spanish holiday island. And it could even rise as high as 17C on Monday, only marginally cooler than the Cote D’Azur.
Sean Penston, forecaster with MeteoGroup, said: “I think it’s going to be a more prolonged warm spell than we’ve had so far this year. Even in parts of Scotland it’s going to get into the high teens, in the eastern parts of Scotland.”
There will be a cloudy start Saturday with some light rain in Perthshire but should then clear into temperatures in the mid-teens, according to the Met Office.
Sarah Holland, of the Met Office, said: “That will gradually clear away and dry up and actually become brighter as well, so for many people a dry, fine and sunny day on Saturday.”
Sunday will also have a cloudy start but will once again give way to a dry day and sunny spells. But bank holiday Monday will see the warmest weather of the weekend.
