A Kinross-shire girl, who last month fulfilled a dying wish to meet Andy Murray, passed away while watching her hero battle to victory at Wimbledon.

Esme Macintyre inspired hundreds of people after posting a wish list on her Facebook page, Esme’s Adventure.

Despite suffering from an inoperable brain tumour the courageous teenager compiled a list of dreams she wanted to achieve before she became too ill.

Of the 37 items on her list she was able to tick off 12, including chatting with Andy Murray at the start of his winning Wimbledon run.

At SW19 she watched as Murray beat Benjamin Becker in straight sets in his first-round tie and was watching him again when she passed away at home on Sunday afternoon, at just 18.

Back in April Esme, who lived in Kinnesswood, was surprised by Sir Chris Hoy, who popped by for tea.

Last night the six-time Olympic gold medallist expressed his condolences to Esme’s Family.

He said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of Esme’s passing. My thoughts are with her family.

“It was an honour to meet such a brave young lady and I will always remember the afternoon I spent with her, hearing about her journey and her hopes and wishes for the future.”

Esme also met round-the-world yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur and Scottish singing sensations Emeli Sande and Amy MacDonald.

Esme’s mother Anne, Anne’s husband Dave Morris and Esme’s brother Calum announced Esme’s death on her Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.

Dave said the family were “devastated” at losing her.

He said: “She’d been following the tournament and we were watching the final on a laptop. Although her vision was going we were listening to the match she knew Andy was winning.”

The family announced Esme’s passing on her Facebook page and thanked those who had helped the teen in her battle.

In a statement online, Esme’s family wrote: “Our beloved Esme passed away this afternoon. She became very unwell on Saturday morning and spent her last hours with us at home, calm and peaceful to the end.”
