Vulnerable children fare better in Perth and Kinross
BySandra Gray
Children in Perth and Kinross waiting to be adopted or fostered are in a far better position than anywhere else than the country.
Latest reports reveal that the local position continues to be more positive than the national average, with a permanence plan in place for 98% of children accommodated by Perth and Kinross Council who are not able to return to their birth family.
Only a very small number of youngsters are awaiting a permanent foster home or adoption. These figures were unveiled one year after the Perth and Kinross Framework for Permanence Planning Action Plan was unveiled.
It was developed in response to national reports from the Scottish Children’s Reporters Administration and the Scottish Government, which identified that delays in decision-making and finding a permanent home can lead to poorer life outcomes for children.
An update report for the local authority also set out the progress made on a range of areas for improvement and the council will now work closely with the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland to update its policy and learn from good practice.
