The end of an era was marked in Perth on Monday as Tayside Joint Police Board and Tayside Fire and Rescue Joint Board met for the last time.

The local bodies made up of council representatives from Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross have been swept away in the service reforms which will come into force on April 1.

Their final meetings, held in the Council Chambers in Perth, were taken up with technical details and reviewing the final months of the separate forces.

The formal business of the day was followed by an event to mark the historic nature of the occasion a drive past of blue light vehicles watched by shivering dignitaries on windswept Tay Street.

Chief constable Justine Curran and fire chief officer Dave Boyle looked on as Tayside ceremonial crests were handed to Perth Provost Liz Grant, Angus Provost Helen Oswald and Dundee Deputy Provost Christina Roberts.

Provost Grant said: “Perth and Kinross is at the heart of the Tayside region and therefore it is fitting that we honour and mark the forthcoming change to the single Scottish Police and Fire and Rescue services in the Fair City.

“All those who work in these key blue light emergency services locally are to be praised for their commitment to the safety and care of our communities.”
