A new National Performance Centre for Sports (NPCS) would bring benefits to sports clubs across Perth and Kinross, according to its council backers.
Senior councillors met with young members of Perth Phoenix Basketball Club as they practised at Perth Grammar School to flag up the need for the Fair City to have the facility.
The entrants that have made it through to the final stage of the bidding process for the new centre will be announced by the Scottish Government on Friday. Dundee and Stirling are also among those waiting for news.
Rob Blackhall, from Perth Phoenix Basketball Club, said: “We’re really excited at the prospect of the NPCS bid as it opens up the potential for clubs like ours to continue developing, including taking part in and hosting regional league games in Perth.”
The council bid centres on a 30-hectare site west of Perth. Council leader Ian Miller said the NPCS would complement existing facilities in the area.
