A young motorist found guilty of careless driving has been warned to take greater care on the roads in future.
Ryan Young, 20, faced trial for overtaking an ambulance and veering into the path of an oncoming van just before a sharp bend on the A85 Perth to Crieff road, near Methven.
Witness Dean Duncan told Perth Sheriff Court that the accused had pulled into the correct carriageway before reaching the corner, but earlier evidence from the paramedics in the ambulance suggested that he could have struck the other vehicle if it had not taken evasive action.
Young, of King Street, Stanley, was found guilty of driving carelessly on February 3 last year by overtaking prior to a bend in the road and into the face of oncoming traffic.
He was fined £250 and his licence was endorsed with six penalty points.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “It is an important lesson for you to learn that, once you begin a manoeuvre, it’s not just what the position is at that point it’s anticipating what could happen throughout the duration of the manoeuvre.”
