A TOP Perthshire eaterie has stormed up a list of the world’s best restaurants.
Andrew Fairlie’s restaurant at Gleneagles Hotel jumped 35 places from last year in the list compiled by US-based Elite TravelerMagazine.
The publication is aimed at those who travel the world by private and placed Restaurant Andrew Fairlie 62nd, up from 97th place last year.
Fairlie, who is the only person in Scotland to have been awarded two Michelin stars, was up against tough competition, including Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant, which was placed second on the list.
The top spot was taken by Chicago-based Alinea, while Pierre Gagnaire in Paris and London’s The Ledbury also featured in the top 10.
Fairlie’s restaurant was placed above top London restaurants Le Gavroche (65), Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley (69) and The River Caf, which was placed at number 88.
It also beat a number of international eateries including in Japan, South Africa and America.
The list was compiled from the dining experiences of Elite Traveler’s network of Ultra High Net Worth members.
In Fairlie’s entry on its website, the magazine praised the setting as much as the food.
It said: “Sumptuously lit with rich dark paneling and floorlength silk drapes, the restaurant opened to immediate critical acclaim.
“One of only eight Relais & Chteaux Grand Chefs in the UK, Andrew Fairlie is an A-lister of the gourmet world.
“His focus on quality, locally sourced materials means staff members are often found foraging in the hotel grounds,” it said.
“A chef of exquisite skill, he masterfully turns the best of Scottish producefrom wild salmon to Aberdeen Angus Beefinto legendary dishes.”
The accolade is the latest to be handed to Fairlie in the last 12 months.
In February Fairlie was named as the most powerful person in the hospitality industry.
Last October the eaterie topped the list of the Sunday Times 100 best places to eat in the UK.
