Headline acts have been announced for this year’s Southern Fried Festival, which will be held in Perth.
Tickets go on sale on Monday for the festival, which takes place from Friday July 19 to Sunday July 21.
The event, which celebrates American Roots music, returns to Perth for its sixth year and opens with songstress Shelby Lynne, joined by Bettye LaVette, at Perth Concert Hall on July 19.
The following day will see the Mavericks play a standing gig at the same venue. Then, on Sunday July 21, Patty Griffin will play Perth Concert Hall.
Other major acts include Darrell Scott, Danny Thompson, The McCrary Sisters, Tom Russell, Larkin Poe plus Brennen Leigh, the New Madrids and Bill Kirchen.
Southern Fried acts at Perth Theatre will include performances by local favourites the New Madrids, plus a host of American and homegrown acts.
Yesterday, Andy Shearer, director of the Southern Fried Festival, said many acts will be returning to this year’s event and added that he is looking forward to seeing other bands for the first time in Perth.
“We are delighted to welcome some musicians who haven’t graced our shores, such as Patty Griffin, Bettye LaVette, who is enjoying the most extraordinary career surge after 50 years in the business, and the incredibly talented Shelby Lynne,” he said.
“We are particularly pleased that Southern Fried is bringing the incredible McCrary Sisters to the UK for the very first time. As ever with America, it is all about the song, and, with the breadth and depth of artists we have lined up for Southern Fried 2013, we are looking forward once again to sharing an unforgettable festival experience.”
Individual and weekend passes are available. A festival pass costs £79 and allows access to all five evening gigs at Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre. For more information, visit the festival website, southernfriedfestival.co.uk, or phone the Horsecross Arts box office on 01738 621031.
