Tributes have been paid to a popular Perth disc jockey who died suddenly last week.
A friend discovered Tony Curran outside his flat and, despite desperate attempts to revive the 42-year-old, he was pronounced dead.
Tony had left an event at city centre venue The Grill on Thursday night after complaining he was feeling ill. He was later found outside his Speygate flat having suffered a suspected heart attack.
His mother Di said: “I love Tony to bits and miss him.
“Friends and other folk have been great in helping us and I am very grateful to the police as well. Everybody has been very supportive.
“There are so many lovely tributes on Facebook and we are very proud of Tony and heartened by all the tributes to him.”
Tony was an instantly recognisable figure across the Fair City, gigging as a DJ in various venues.
Brian McDonald, of The Grill, said: “Tony was well known and well liked.
“Everybody knew and loved Tony and his death is an awful shock. He put on a fantastic night of entertainment for a customer’s 69th birthday and the night also doubled up as the 25th anniversary of me taking on The Grill.
“Hours later we learned he was dead. He put on a great night and everyone at The Grill is deeply shocked and upset at Tony’s death.”
Tony also commonly appeared at Donskie’s. Licensee Paul Forrest said: “I first employed Tony as a cellarman at Shenanigans. That was about 21 years ago but Tony made his name as a very good disc jockey.
“He worked behind the decks for me at Donskie’s and Strangeways and I am very upset at his tragic death. There are 400 hits alone about him on the Donskie’s Facebook page, all testifying to what a great guy he was.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1.06am on Friday morning to reports of a male lying in a close who was not conscious and not breathing.
“A friend of the patient had called in and they had attempted CPR. We arrived on the scene at 1.12am but the man was already deceased.”
Tony is survived by his son, Thomas, 21.
