Music fans from across the globe have shown interest in this year’s Perth Festival of the Arts which will see a host of top acts come to the city, including the legendary Van Morrison who returns to the event after playing there in 2006.
The festival, held from May 16-26, will also see Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra return to the Fair City after his sell-out concert at the event last year.
The festival is a registered charity now in its 42nd year. Sandra Ralston, Perth Festival of the Arts administrator, told The Courier there had been global interest in the event.
She added: “The box office is open on Monday and the likes of Van Morrison and Jools Holland are bound to be popular attractions so I would strongly advise people keen on these shows to book early.”
Sir James and Lady Galway will play on Sunday, May 19, with the English Chamber Orchestra. He is sure to be a big draw having sold over 30 million albums.
Van Morrison will play Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday, May 22. The Northern Irish singer rose to prominence in the 1960s, with hits such as Gloria and Brown Eyed Girl.
Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will return to the festival on Friday, May 17, at Perth Concert Hall with special guest Roland Gift, the voice of the Fine Young Cannibals.
Scottish rising stars Admiral Fallow supported by Dundee band the Hazey Janes will play Perth Concert Hall on Friday May 24.
Fans of opera will have the opportunity to see the English Touring Opera who return to Perth from Thursday May 16 to Saturday May 18, with three new productions. This will include Cosi Fan Tutte.
World-renowned choir the Sixteen will sing in St John’s Kirk of Perth on May 25 and other gems include Horrible Histories by Birmingham Stage Company.
