LIBRARY CUSTOMERS in Perth and Kinross have been making significant use of the new ebook lending service.
It has proved a huge success since its launch on Halloween, with almost 2,000 library users browsing the service in the first month alone.
Almost 700 titles were downloaded to mobile devices and the popularity has been such that 300 new titles have already been added to the ebook catalogue.
The crime section alone has doubled in size due to popular demand, and a range of other genres are available, including humanities, biographies, lifestyle and leisure, adventure, science fiction, romance, health, children’s and young adults.
Residents have also been making regular use of the e-audio book services, which enables books to be downloaded onto a smartphone, iPad or other tablet.
More than 1,000 titles are already available and hundreds have been downloaded to date.
One major plus point of ebooks is that there are no more late books or fines.
After the loan period has been reached, the books are automatically deleted from devices.
The ebook lending service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
