SNOW IS expected to fall across parts of Scotland throughout the weekend, the Met Office has warned.

Several inches could fall on Tayside and Fife, already shivering through an Arctic blast for most of the week.

A heavy fall has been forecast for today, with the worst predicted to be overnight into Saturday.

The Met Office said there could be “significant travel disruption”.

A spokeswoman said: “At the moment the area is on a yellow warning but that has the potential to be upgraded to amber.

“That means 10 to 15 centimetres of snow are expected, with 20-plus on higher ground.

“It will weaken throughout Saturday but there could be further accumulations during the evening.

“It will last until Sunday morning so there is the potential for disruption.”

Temperatures will be around freezing but could feel much colder because of the wind, she said.

Trunk road operator BEAR Scotland said it was ready to provide 24-hour cover over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “We have all our available resources on standby which includes frontline spreaders, additional spreaders and sub-contractors.”
