WHISKY, CHAMPAGNE and ostrich eggs have been revealed as gifts given to Courier Country police officers in the last five years.
Tickets to sporting events, the cinema and the theatre also appeared on a list of gifts given to officers by organisations and members of the public.
The list of gifts was revealed following a freedom of information request.
Last year Tayside officers received 15 gifts, with a total value of £600, while Fife Constabulary received 10 freebies but were unable to give a total value.
The most bizarre item gifted to the police was a decorated ostrich egg which was presented to Fife Constabulary by the North Sudan Police Service.
The egg, which was given in 2011, now has pride of place in the force museum.
Several gifted bottles of alcohol, including wine and single malt whiskies, were donated to the force’s charity raffle.
Fife Police were unable to give values for many of the items they received but several gift vouchers worth up to £50 were given to officers in Fife.
Over the last five years Tayside has received gifts worth £4,065. The most ‘profitable’ year was 2008, when £1,473 worth of gifts were handed over.
In June outgoing Chief Constable John Vine was gifted a quaich, whisky and glasses from Dundee City Council, and a decanter and four glasses from Tayside Fire and Rescue.
