THE LOSS of 25 jobs at the Vion factory in Coupar Angus gives no indication about its future, a company spokesman has insisted.
The factory remains on the market as news emerged that 25 agency workers had been told their services are no longer required.
As fears continue about the future of the chicken processing factory, a spokesman for the firm maintained that the latest move was merely normal working practice.
He said: “There were no redundancies of hired employees, but there were 25 agency contracts that hadn’t been renewed.
“There is a difference between agency staffing and direct employees, because agency staffing, by its nature, gives flexibility to move according to production demands.”
He said the sale of the factory is no further forward but discussions are continuing with “interested parties”.
Hopes had been raised that the disposal of other parts of the company meant that Vion would be able to sell its Coupar Angus complex as a going concern.
The plant was put up for sale in November, along with Vion’s other UK interests, as the firm concentrated on its core food activities on the continent.
