A bus driver is alleged to have stood on top of his bus while waving a petrol can around and threatening to set himself on fire.
Kenneth Carey (56), of Aultbeag Road, Grandtully, appeared from custody at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday to face a series of charges.
But Sheriff Michael Fletcher issued an assessment order, requesting that Carey has a medical examination at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth.
Carey, a coach company director, made no plea to various charges, which included that between January 23 and January 24, both dates inclusive, at Birks View, Aberfeldy, he behaved in a threatening manner by standing on top of a bus and repeatedly shouted, uttered threats, banged on the bus windows, waved a petrol can around and threatened to set fire to himself.
He also faces a charge that he broke a bail condition not to drive a bus or any public service vehicle by driving a bus between January 23 and January 24 in Bridgend, Aberfeldy and elsewhere.
In addition, Carey faces a separate charge that on January 23/January 24, on various roads in Bridgend, Aberfeldy and elsewhere he drove whilst disqualified and without insurance.
The court heard Carey appeared from custody on Monday when he was remanded in custody pending a psychiatric report.
Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson yesterday said: “The report is quite plain and of the view that the accused requires to go to hospital for assessment.”
Dr Karen Richards, of Murray Royal Hospital, addressed the court and said that a bed was now available for Carey at the hospital where he would receive “appropriate assessment”.
Carey will return to court on March 5.
