Perth man’s drunken outburst caused dog to bite him

A stand-up row in the middle of the street lost a Perth man his liberty.

Gavin Mann was jailed for four months after admitting breaching the peace on August 20 last year.He was spotted by a local resident drunkenly arguing with someone as they stood on St Catherine’s Road.

The terrified witness heard the 29-year-old threaten to kill the other man and she contacted Tayside Police.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that Mann’s behaviour was so aggressive that his victim’s dog was frightened, leading it to sink its teeth into his leg.

When the police arrived, the accused continued with his threats and shouted: “I’m going to burn his house down.”

Mann’s solicitor said that the argument was actually sparked by the dog biting his client, although he accepted that his subsequent behaviour was as a result of excess alcohol.

Sentence had been deferred to allow the accused to be of good behaviour, but he has since served a six-month prison sentence, and was only released in early January.

Mann, of Atholl Street, admitted acting in a disorderly manner by shouting, swearing and threatening violence.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher said: “I gave you the opportunity to continue to be of good behaviour, but that didn’t work and I’m left with no alternative but a custodial sentence.”
