Perthshire author Geoff Holder has had published the first history of Scottish poltergeist cases.
An astonishing array of tales from the 17th century to the modern day, his book recounts stories such as the Aberdeenshire farm where stones fell like rain, the council house haunted by a malevolent ‘banging ghost’ and the vicar attacked by aspoon-throwing spirit.
Poltergeist Over Scotland covers 134 cases from locations across Scotland. Mr Holder is an expert on the darker side of Scottish history.
He has written more than 20 books on the subject, including various volumes in the Paranormal and Haunted series, the Guide to Mysterious series and Scottish Bodysnatchers.
His upcoming books include Bloody Scottish History: Edinburgh. A long-standing member of institutions such as the Ghost Club, he lectures and leads guided walks throughout the year.
Among the cases he examines is that of disturbances at the Kinross household of the Rev Robert McGill in 1718. The problems started with silver spoons and knives being found sticking upright in the floor of the barn.
It was also claimed that food was found to contain pins and clothes were destroyed while in a locked chest.
The minister’s Bible was cast on the fire, but did not burn, while a similarly thrown plate and two silver spoons melted immediately in the flames.
