A van driver and four children were injured in a crash between a school bus and a van near Murthly in Perthshire this morning.
The collision between the Stagecoach double-decker bus and a red Volkswagen Caravelle van happened on the Kinclaven Road, a mile outside the village, shortly before 8.15am.
The 34-year-old van driver sustained a head injury and a broken collarbone. His injuries are described as serious but not life threatening and he was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
A 15-year-old boywas taken to Perth Royal Infirmary as a precaution having sustained a slight shoulder injury.
Police say there were another three passengers on the bus, all of secondary school age. They sustained very minor injuries and did not require hospital attention.
The 60-year-old driver was unhurt.
A youngster who said she was travelling on the school bus tweeted: “Just been in bus crash and I’m still shaking … People on our bus just got bleeding noses but the guy in the van that crashed into us is still stuck inside.”The incident triggered a massive emergency response. Tayside Police, Tayside Fire and Rescue, the Scottish Ambulance Service and a Basics doctor were all in attendance.At least two other vehicles were involved in early morning accidents on the same stretch of road as drivers struggled with the conditions.Drivers are being told to avoid the area if possible.
