VIDEO: Stalker captures rare footage of golden eagle attacking deer
ByKirsty McIntosh
An eagle attempting to carry off a deer three and a half times its weight is the star of an amazing video which has emerged on the internet.
The encounter on a Perthshire estate shows a large golden eagle, hovering over a roe deer hind and her baby on a snowy slope at Clunes, an area of the Atholl Estates near Blair Atholl.
The bird of prey makes several attempts to grab the mother, landing on the ground on at least two occasions, before giving up and flying off.

The grainy footage kindly shared with The Courier by Atholl Estates then shows the deer bounding off unscathed in the opposite direction.
The rare spectacle was filmed by a Dutch tourist Menno Aukes while he was stalking on the estate in December. In an exclusive interview in Tuesday’s Courier, gamekeeper Ronnie Hepburn, who was with Mr Aukes at the time, says it is the first time he has seen such an attack in 35 years of working on the hills.
