Labour Party stalwart and former councillor Jack Kelly

Former Perth councillor Jack Kelly has died, aged 59.
The Labour Party stalwart was elected to the then-district council at a by-election in 1986. He was then re-elected to the council for a full term in 1988.
A former bus driver and trade union coordinator with Tayside Regional Council’s education department, Mr Kelly went on to serve as a councillor with Perth and Kinross Council, standing down in 2003.
During his time in office he served on various committees including housing and environmental health .
He was also the council’s representative on the Citizens’ Advice Bureau management committee.
Away from politics, Mr Kelly was an accomplished musician.
Provost Elizabeth Grant said: “He was a well-kent face around Perth having been a bus driver for many years before becoming a councillor, and through his connections as a local musician. The condolences of everyone at Perth and Kinross Council go out to Mr Kelly’s family.”
Mr Kelly is survived by his children Gavin, Leanne and Laura. His funeral takes place at Perth Crematorium on Friday at 11.30am. Donations can be made to the Cornhill Macmillan Centre.
