One of Perth’s newest teams has proved it is “wheelie” special by winning a prestigious sports award.
The Fair City Rollers beat off strong competition from Perth Strathtay Harriers and Kinross Cycling Club to be the first recipients of the Innovation award.
The roller derby league impressed the selection panel of Perth and Kinross Sports Council with the inclusive opportunities it offers to women in the area, as well as its innovative approach to recruitment and fund-raising.
At a ceremony at the Salutation Hotel, members of the Fair City Rollers received their star-shaped trophy, sponsored by Smith and Sons Coaches, and they later shared the glory with their fellow derby girls and guys during the Team Scotland tryouts.
For those who want to be part of an award-winning team, a ‘Fresh Meat’ night will be held at Bell’s Sports Centre on May 10 from 7pm until 8.30pm.
Women and men aged from 18 are invited to go along and try their hand at the fast-growing sport, with limited equipment available for loan.
