Manchester is barking up the wrong tree with request to move Enchanted Forest

The backers of a Pitlochry visitor attraction have been left stunned by a request with a distinctly Shakespearian aura.

The Bard famously wrote of the march of Birnam Wood but that was nothing compared to the move suggested for another Perthshire woodland.

A suggestion the Enchanted Forest could move to Manchester for an October run has been met with incredulity by locals.

The long-running event to take place in the Explorers Woodland Garden at Pitlochry Festival Theatre for the first time this year, after moving from Faskally is due to the area being Big Tree Country.

That has not stopped a firm involved in the Diwali Festival of Light in Manchester making tentative inquiries about whether it could be moved to an urban setting.

An entry on the event’s Facebook page cheekily states organisers are “wondering how best to respond to the enquiry (or maybe request) that we move The Enchanted Forest to Manchester for a couple of days.”

It continues, “Ummmmmmm, do you think they realise there are trees involved in the event?”

A poster on Facebook asked if the inquirers thought the trees were inflatable.

A spokeswoman for the event said, “We got an inquiry from somebody wanting to know if we could set up for two days in Manchester.

“It would appear there was a misunderstanding of what is involved and it wasn’t realistic. We’ve had these inquiries before but the event really needs the trees of Perthshire to make it work.”
