Willowgate Fishery applies to reopen extended cafe

The Willowgate Fishery at Kinfauns has lodged plans to reopen its cafe.

When the Tay Salmon Fisheries Company was forced to close its doors earlier this year, many Willowgate customers said the well-used cafe would be missed.

As part of efforts to kick-start the fishery by 2012, permission is being sought for a temporary change of use of the bothy, where hot food and drinks had been served.

There are also proposals to increase the size of the existing building to include a larger kitchen, customer toilets and a covered patio area overlooking the river.

It is estimated the reopened fishery and cafe would attract around 40 visitors each day and create six jobs.

The application from Tay Salmon Fisheries Company states: ”This change of use is for two years only. The viability of the business will be assessed towards the end of this term and a new application for continued use applied for if considered necessary.”

Earlier proposals requested the change of use of the existing pond to public leisure and recreational use, including fishing and formation of associated access.

Although Willowgate operated at its current site for some time, an enforcement order was served by Perth and Kinross Council in January as the business was found to have breached planning controls.
