Police believe fires which damaged three cars in Kinross on Friday evening are linked to two other vehicle fires in the town in the past fortnight.
The three cars and a wheelie bin were set alight near to High Street and Old Causeway, between 7.30pm and midnight.
Firefighters received their first call just before 8pm, rushing to the Gospel Hall car park on Curate Wynd following reports of a vehicle on fire.
Minutes later, a unit was sent to an open area near Old Causeway, where part of a fence and three fridge freezers were well alight.
As they attended, further reports of a car on fire in the same area were received, with the blaze being brought under control quickly.
Just after 11.30pm on the same evening, fire crews had to deal with a final call at Burns Begg Street, where a third vehicle had been set alight.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said all the cars had been badly damaged, but no-one was injured.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious, or who has information that could assist with inquiries, to contact them by calling 0300 111 2222, or to speak to any officer.
Perth and Kinross councillor Sandy Miller moved to reassure residents living within his ward, telling The Courier that he believes the repeated incidents are nothing more than malicious acts of vandalism.
”From the various reports, I got the impression, either rightly or wrongly, that it could have been acts of vandalism,” he said. ”I don’t think it is any more sinister than that, although it is obviously at the more serious end of the scale.”
