The former Pullars building is likely to be brought back into commercial use.
This week’s closing date for bids for the town centre complex saw ”a number of offers” submitted.
The Mill Street building, which stretches between the Kinnoull Street multi-storey car park and Perth Concert Hall, has lain empty since the local branch of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) shut in 2005. It was placed on the open market in August and attracted significant interest.
A council spokesman said: ”We have received a number of offers, each of which needs to be carefully assessed and potentially further information sought from each bidder before we are able to report to the property sub-committee in the near future.”
Nina Stobie of selling agent Jones Lang LaSalle said: ”Interest has come from a range of uses which include residential, hotel and office use. There is strong interest.”
The building, which dates from 1865, once housed the Pullars dyeworks.
It was almost torn down as part of a plan to create a ”cultural hub” in the centre of Perth, linking the concert hall with the High Street through a shopping boulevard where Next and New Look are.
That council-backed vision of developer KW Perth fell through as the credit crunch bit, and the block has remained unaltered since.
Other options included a high-end store, five-star hotel or arts centre.
Plans to demolish the imposing block were vociferously opposed by the Perth Civic Trust, Scottish Civic Trust and the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.
