The problem of knowing what to do with old paint has been solved by an initiative in Perth.
Staff and clients at the Walled Garden in the grounds of Perth’s Murray Royal Hospital are celebrating an award of over £2000 in support of their paint re-use project, Community RePaint Perth, which has been officially opened.
The project, which is part of the local charity PKAVS, takes leftover paint and redistributes it to good causes within the community, helping to reduce amounts going into landfill.
With the support of a co-ordinator, the project is manned by Walled Garden clients recovering from mental illnesses and offers an opportunity to develop skills within a safe and supportive environment.
The financial award from Awards for All Scotland has been used to purchase a hut which will be a focus for customer care as well as a base for the clients who help run RePaint.
Kitted out with a new computer, the hut will also offer a training space for Walled Garden visitors to develop IT skills.
Debbie Butler, co-ordinator of the Walled Garden, said, “Both customers and clients will benefit and we are grateful for the support from Awards for All.”
