Household recycling rates in Perth and Kinross have smashed Scottish Government targets, reaching 52.7% for the first time.
This means that of the waste collected, more than half was sent to recycling through the kerbside collection service or collected at the eight recycling centres around the area.
Perth and Kinross Council’s waste services team and local zero waste volunteers say they are extending a big ”thank you” to residents for their efforts.
The next target is to achieve a household recycling rate of 60% of waste by 2020 and the region appears to be ahead of the game when it comes to achieving that goal.
Environment convener councillor Alan Grant said: ”To keep raising our recycling rate we need local people to keep making good use of the services we provide throughout Perth and Kinross.
”Reaching a 50% household recycling rate is a fantastic achievement. The role of residents is crucial in this and I would like to express our appreciation for their ongoing support.”
Scotland is holding its second annual Recycle Week, which is organised by Zero Waste Scotland and supported by partner organisations including local authorities, retailers, schools, businesses and community groups.
