Police forces searching for a dangerous escaped convict last seen in Perth admit they have no idea where he is.
Tayside Police believe Lee Cyrus is no longer in this area and has not been “for a number of days”.
Cyrus has been the subject of a massive manhunt since walking from an open prison in Lincolnshire where he was serving a life sentence for attacking and robbing a 90-year-old woman.
Frantic efforts to find him switched to Tayside after he was spotted in Perth on Tuesday. The trail has gone cold since a man, thought to be Cyrus, fled from an off-duty police officer at Kinnoull Hill on Wednesday.
There have been no definitive sightings of him since.
DCI Greig Steele said: “Tayside Police has strong information and intelligence that Lee Cyrus was recently in the Tayside area.
“There is also intelligence that he is no longer in the Tayside area and that he has not been for a number of days.”
The 47-year-old is wanted for questioning over a sexual assault in Perth last week.
Buses and trains have been monitored but there has been no sign of Cyrus.
Mr Steele said: “We have received a number of calls about possible sightings of him. None of them have been confirmed as positive sightings but we will continue to provide an appropriate and proportionate response to every call that we receive from the public.
“The public’s safety is of the utmost importance.”
