A Perthshire farmer is understood to have died following a road accident in the Scottish Borders.
A 49-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured when he was involved in a collision with a car on Saturday.
He has been named locally as David Arnot, proprietor of Mains of Errol Farm and an important figure in the soft fruit industry.
The Courier contacted the family but they were too upset to speak.
The accident took place shortly before 10am on Saturday as Mr Arnot, a motorbike enthusiast, travelled on the A72 Peebles to Galashiels road.
Four occupants of a Peugeot 206 were taken to the Borders General Hospital, having suffered what were described as minor injuries. They were later released.
Lothian and Borders Police have since appealed for witnesses to contact them with any information.
Mr Arnot played a major role in the Angus Growers farmer-owned soft fruit marketing company and was known for his innovation in the sector.
Around 11 years ago, he was credited for developing a new approach to the growing of strawberries in polytunnels a common practice around Perthshire and Angus creating a spraying system that allowed him to treat thousands of plants with fungicides and pesticides within the space of a few hours.
Mr Arnot was highly praised for his invention, even receiving a congratulatory visit from the then Deputy First Minister Jim Wallace.
Members of the area’s farming community have indicated that his loss will be keenly felt.
