Ill-health forces Perth councillor Dave Scott to stand down

One of Perth’s longest-serving local councillors has been forced to stand down due to ill-health.
Dave Scott, who represents Perth City North, became seriously unwell in September last year and has been unable to attend any public engagements since.
Perth and Kinross Council leader Ian Miller said Mr Scott would be greatly missed.
The former grocer campaigned throughout his career in local government to ensure the views of his constituents were heard by decision-makers, Mr Miller added.
”The experience and knowledge he brought to the council chambers as one of the longest-serving councillors in the area will be missed by all his colleagues.
”He is a kind, humorous character who lightened up debates and I want to thank him for all his hard work.”
Section 35 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 states that any member of a council who fails to attend an official meeting for more than six months must stand down.
Mr Miller confirmed that, due the proximity to the local government elections in May, no by-election would be held.
The public are asked to contact fellow Perth City North councillor Elspeth Maclachlan in the meantime.
