Blairgowrie man ‘lost control’ in attacking wife

A Blairgowrie man who viciously assaulted his wife after a night out will be sentenced in December.

Stewart Donaldson (42), of Ericht Lane, has admitted carrying out the attack on Mary Donaldson at their home address by repeatedly kicking her on the body and punching her on the head, all to her injury.

The couple had been in a relationship for four years and had been married since July 2010, but that relationship soured on May 6 last year.

Perth Sheriff Court was told they had been drinking together in a pub until the accused was asked to leave the premises.

While Mrs Donaldson returned home, her husband did not immediately follow and was in an aggressive mood when he arrived to find she had locked the doors. On gaining entry, he began to shout at his wife and then assaulted her, leaving her with bruising to her legs and also to the area around both of her eyes.

The court was told the pair have since reconciled.

Sheriff Robert McCreadie said: ”Your wife says that you are ‘not that kind of person’ but on this occasion, at least, you were exactly that kind of person.

”You concede that after knocking your wife to the ground, you punched and kicked her as she lay on the floor. More worryingly, you cannot explain why you did what you did. You lost control.”

The sheriff deferred sentence until December 12 to enable the couple to engage with a local partner support service.
