A Perthshire mother of two has died in a motorcycling accident.
Joanne Hall, who was 41 and from Scone, had only taken delivery of her bike a few days ago, having passed her compulsory basic training.
She died when she was involved in an accident with a car near the Ballathie House Hotel, Stanley, just before 6pm on Sunday.
A mum to two teenage daughters, Joanne worked as a support-for-learning assistant at North Muirton Primary in Perth.
Head teacher Angela Dow paid tribute, saying: ”Everyone at the school has been stunned by this terrible news.
”Joanne was a very highly valued member of staff who supported many children during her eight years at the school. She was extremely popular with our pupils, colleagues and parents. We will miss her terribly.
”We have informed all of the children of this tragic event, therefore today has been a difficult day at school for staff and pupils alike. All of our thoughts are with Joanne’s family at this difficult time.”
A former member of the roller derby team Fair City Rollers, Mona, as she was known by many people, had latterly moved into refereeing the sport.
One person who knew her through roller derby, but who wanted to remain anonymous, said everyone had been shocked by the tragic accident.
The woman added: ”She was well-known and well-liked and played an important role in the league.
”Joanne was known to many Scottish teams through the sport she loved. She had a wicked sense of humour and will be missed by everyone.”
A post on the Rollers’ Facebook page said: “It’s an emotional time everybody has lost a dear friend, amazing person and probably the coolest referee Scottish roller derby has seen.
“Our thoughts go out to Ref D’monas family at this hard time and we will always help wherever we can. We will miss you so much Mona.”
The police are appealing for witnesses following the accident, which involved a black Baimo motorbike and a black Peugeot car.
”Following the initial collision, a green-coloured Kawasaki motorcycle travelling on the road was subsequently involved in a minor collision with the Baimo motorcycle,” a police spokesman said.
”The rider of the Kawasaki motorcycle and driver of the Peugeot car were uninjured.
”Inquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing and officers would appeal to any witnesses who have not already contacted police to call Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.
”This includes anyone who may have stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen any of these vehicle travelling on the road, near to the access road to Ballathie House Hotel, prior to the collisions.”
The fatal accident was the second on the district’s roads involving a motorcycle in less than a fortnight.
On August 22 a 41-year-old man from Stanley died following a collision with a car on the A85 near Comrie.
On Sunday another female motorcyclist sustained a serious leg injury in an earlier accident. The 60-year-old was hurt in a collision with a car on the A93 at Bridge of Cally at around 4.30pm and was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance.
