Motorists had a lucky escape when a van fell off a transporter as it travelled along the M90 at 50mph.
The Vauxhall van careered towards motorway traffic before hitting a crash barrier and coming to rest on the verge.
The transporter lost its cargo near Glenfarg, 10 miles south of Perth, at around 4.50pm on Monday.
Incredibly, the unmanned vehicle did not hit any of the vehicles following behind.
Tayside Police confirmed that they had attended the incident and that the driver had been charged with having an insecure load.
Motorist Katie Melville (26), who passed the scene around half an hour after the incident, described seeing the runaway vehicle after it came to rest.
”As I was approaching the scene I saw the police car with the lights flashing,” she said. ”At first I just assumed it was a minor crash as there was another small car there and I was shocked at how high up the verge the van had gone.
”There were deep tyre marks in the grass and the van was sitting at a 45 degree angle. There was no sign of the transporter lorry, the police must have moved it quite quickly.
”I’m glad I’d set off to Edinburgh a little later than I normally would have because it would have been terrifying to see a van coming backwards at you at that speed.”
