Bridge of Earn residents have been offered hope their postal woes will soon be at an end.
The village post office was withdrawn last month, following the resignation of its sub postmaster.
A mobile post office has been operating ever since, though not without problems, but efforts are being made to improve the service.
However, negotiations are going on to ensure a permanent facility will soon be open once again.
Local independent councillor Alan Jack admitted there had been ”disappointment” within the community regarding the ”erratic” service of the mobile post office van.
”I have been in touch with my local contact, David Duff, who is responsible for arranging the facility,” he said.
”He apologises for the poor service and the fact the aerial which sends a signal to open the safe on the van was defective and consequently failed.
”The Post Office is very aware of the large population, including many elderly residents, who rely on the service and will do their utmost to ensure the service is kept to a good standard.
”They also advised me that negotiations are proceeding well for a Post Office to be sited in another area of the village with the interested parties.
”They will ensure the facility will open as soon as practicable.”
