The relocation of a Perthshire police station would not impact on local services, Tayside Police has stressed.
It emerged yesterday that the force and Perth and Kinross Council are in advanced discussions regarding the relocation of the existing police office at Crieff to Strathearn Community Campus.
This would mean the closure of Crieff police office, which has been at its current location on King Street for over 100 years.
The building contains a number of areas which are no longer used, such as the cells and doctor’s room.
Inspector Iain Ward, the senior officer for the area, said: ”Naturally, there may be concerns from the community. However, I would like to take this opportunity to reassure people that there will be no reduction in police numbers or the service we currently provide.
”The move to the campus can only be a positive one. Having an operational police office within a community campus is a new concept, but one which, I think, makes common sense in this day and age.”
A drop-in session has been arranged at the campus as part of the consultation process, where plans can be viewed and there will be an opportunity to speak with Inspector Ward and senior staff from the Campus.
This meeting will be held on Thursday November 8 between 2pm and 7pm.
