Bus collision doesn’t stop tour from going ahead

Despite being involved in a head-on collision in Perthshire, a group of pensioners from the East Midlands were able to continue their bus tour of Scotland.

The tourists were on their way to Braemar on Monday night when their coach was in collision with a 4×4 vehicle five miles north of Bridge of Cally.

Although the 4×4 driver was trapped in his vehicle for a short time, all the bus passengers avoided serious injury. The man was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary, where he was treated for a suspected injury to his sternum.

The passengers on the David Urquhart Travel bus escaped unscathed, although four were treated on the scene for shock and minor injuries.

Nesta Gilliland of the firm said, “Our priority was to check that the passengers were OK and how we could look after them. We quickly got another coach to pick them up so they were able to continue their journey to Braemar and they made it to their hotel just after 11.30pm, where the staff were waiting for them.

“The driver of the bus was uninjured but was quite shaken and remained at the scene to give information to the police. The passengers were also quite shocked but they wanted to carry on with their trip.”

The tour of Royal Deeside will carry on as normal, although the holidaymakers faced a delay in taking part in an excursion as they had to wait for another coach.

Initial investigations suggested a combination of wet weather and a diesel spill had a part in the crash. A gritter was sent to the scene to ensure the road was made safe for other motorists.
