Woman dies nine days after fire in Alexandra Street block
ByNews reporter
A woman seriously injured while trying to escape a Perth fire earlier this month has died in hospital.
The woman, today named as 57-year-old Chang Wai Cheng, of Perth, suffered critical injuries as she attempted to flee the blaze in the Alexandra Street block on Thursday, November 8.
With smoke billowing up the communal stairwell, cutting off her escape, she clambered from a window.
She lost her grip and fell around 30ft on to concrete, where she was discovered by firefighters called to tackle the blaze.
Police have now confirmed that she died in Ninewells Hospital on Saturday.
The woman’s identity was initially a mystery, and police appealed for information to help them establish who she was.
Although the force has now named the tragic woman, it says investigations into the fire continue.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222.For more on this story, see Wednesday’s Courier
