A massive 97% of Scots think the benefits system should be changed so that people with terminal illnesses can receive help more quickly.
An Ipsos Mori poll released by Gordonsfightback.com also reveals more than three-quarters of voters back the campaign’s calls for the UK Government to double research funding for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
It comes the week after The Courier launched the Frank’s Law campaign in a bid to make personal care fairer for people suffering from diseases that will end their lives prematurely.
MND patient, campaigner and founder of GordonsFightback.com Gordon Aikman said: “This poll shows overwhelming support for action on MND. Not only is it the right thing to do, it is a vote winner too.
“Voters are clear it is time to fund a cure for MND and fast-track benefits for dying patients.
“Doubling investment in MND research is the catalyst we need to find a cure quicker.”
Half of people with MND die within 14 months of diagnosis, yet it can take several months to process applications for the benefits they need.
Chief executive of MND Scotland, Craig Stockton, said: “These changes could, if implemented, make a huge difference to the lives of those affected by MND.”
