Complete University Guide finds Dundee is among the safest cities for students

Dundee is one of the safest places for students, a crime survey has found.
Crime figures for all 25 UK cities outside London which have two or more universities were analysed by the Complete University Guide to find which ones had the biggest problems with assaults and thefts.
The big four cities in Scotland are on the list and Dundee came out second best after Aberdeen. Serious assault and robbery were worst in Glasgow.
The guide warned a third of students nationally became victims of crimes, with a fifth of robberies happening in the first six weeks of term.
Spokesman Dr Bernard Kingston recommended that students carry a personal alarm, avoid walking home alone at night, conceal laptop computers in a bag and make sure doors are fitted with strong locks.
Iain Kennedy, president of the Dundee University Students’ Association, said, “Examples of the service offered by DUSA include the free distribution of personal attack alarms, an induction pack for all first year students detailing basic safety tips and the successful operation of a free Nightbus service.”
