Dr Carnage stings like a bee on the roller derby track

Caroline King is two doctors in one.
The Dundee College science lecturer has just gained her PhD, but away from her day job she whizzes around a roller derby track under the nickname Dr Carnage.
The fast-paced sport has been growing in popularity and Dr King is a member of the Dundee Roller Girls.
Although she finds training a great way of alleviating stress and winding down after work, the subject her doctorate thesis involved something much more tranquil hummingbirds and butterflies.
”While it is recognised that the vast majority of the world’s crops need to be pollinated by insects and birds, we actually understand very little about the relationship between plants and their pollinators,” she explained.
Fittingly for a pollen expert, she wears a bee motif on her roller derby helmet but her opponents should not expect her to be as sweet as honey once a match starts.
