A Forfar Academy event designed to give pupils a taste of the world of work has been hailed a success.
Using the national education Glow intranet, the event was broadcast to 20 schools and an estimated 300 pupils across the country and focused on working in agriculture.
Speakers gave an insight into their jobs, career paths and the skills they believe are necessary in their field.
The speakers were Carol Littlewood conservation and environmental consultant with Littlewood Land Care and project co-ordinator of the Royal Highland Education Trust, Gordon Cairns manager of Stracathro and Careston Estates Ltd, Neil McLennan national development officer for Enterprise in Education, Learning and Teaching Scotland, John Craig service manager with Agricar Ltd and Graham Burke managing director of Lawrie & Symington, Forfar Mart.
“The feedback from the event has been very positive, with those taking part finding it informative only and entertaining,” said an academy spokesperson.
“The event ties in with the new Curriculum for Excellence, helping young people relate what they are learning in the classroom to the real world, and giving them the opportunity to interact with a variety of professional people, hear about the skills required to be a success in their field, and listen to their experiences of the world of work.”
It was Angus Council’s first national Glow event, and part of a programme of World of Work Wednesdays across the country.
