Dundee and St Andrews universities have some of the most satisfied students in the UK, a survey has found.
More than 13,000 people took part in the annual student experience survey run by Times Higher Education.
They were asked to rank their university on criteria including the quality and helpfulness of staff, the structure of courses, their workload, the quality of facilities and their student union, social life and the environment.
Dundee University was the top-ranked Scottish institution and fifth overall, up from eighth last year.
Social life, extra-curricular activities, the students’ association and library services all received high marks. Its ranking was based on the opinions of 125 students.
Vice-principal Professor James Calderhead said, “It is an absolute priority for us to deliver the best possible student experience in Dundee, so it is very satisfying to see this kind of response to the Times Higher Education survey.
“It is a credit to all staff across the institution and also to the students’ association, with whom we have a very good relationship and who work very hard to help deliver quality to students.”
St Andrews also did well, climbing to 12th spot overall from 14th last time, based on the opinions of 121 of its students.
It scored highly for the quality of its courses and staff, along with its community atmosphere and good-quality environment on and around campus.
Abertay University was not included in last year’s survey, but it earned 51st spot out of 113 UK universities this time, based on the opinions of only 41 students, which was one of the smaller samples.
Its helpful staff, good environment and convenient facilities earned high marks.
