Woodlands Primary School says goodbye to its retiring head teacher

An Angus school held a special assembly this week to mark the retiral of its much-loved head teacher.
Shirley Jeans (60) was appointed to the post at Woodlands Primary School in Carnoustie when it opened in 2007 and has come to think of it as “the best school in the world.”
Having trained at Dundee College, she graduated in 1972 and began her career at Invertay Primary School in Monifieth. She then worked at both Ladyloan Primary School in Arbroath and Carmyllie Primary School before becoming head teacher at Panbride Primary School.
After a spell in charge at Barry Primary School, she took up her post at Woodlands.
During her retirement, Mrs Jeans plans to pursue her hobbies of skiing and sailing as well as taking her beloved dog Dylan on lots of long walks.
She is also looking forward to spending more time with her husband John (68), son Alan (28) and daughter Aimee (26).
She said, “It’s an excellent school and I will really miss all of the children. The staff are fabulous too it’s such a friendly school. We’re all like one big family really.”
Suzanne Smith from Ladyloan Primary School has been appointed by Angus Council to replace Mrs Jeans.
