How to attract students from across the UK and beyond if they cannot visit your campus? That was the challenge Dundee University hopes it has now solved.
Its answer is an online recruitment video that uses time-lapse photography to show potential students around lecture halls, classrooms, the library, sports facilities and students’ association.
E-recruitment manager Dr Ramanee Peiris said the video was a way of demonstrating to people around the world why they should consider studying at Dundee.
“Taking a campus tour is a great introduction to the university, but that’s not always practical. Here’s the next best thing a three-minute whistlestop tour.
“The time-lapse was shot at several locations over a varied period to capture the campus life at different times of the day and night.”
The video shot by local photographer Shahbaz Majeed also features factual information about facilities along with quotes from students, including a first-year who said, “As soon as I walked onto the campus I knew this was the university I wanted to go to.”
That appears to be a common sentiment, given the university was recently ranked fifth in the UK in a student experience survey.
Chris Browne, deputy president of Dundee University Students’ Association, said, “This time-lapse video gives you a really good idea of the exciting life on campus.
“The only drawback is that, even with all the footage that was collated, it is never going to be enough to showcase all the great things going on at Dundee University.”
