Mystery surrounds the death of a former St Andrews University student whose body was found near an Inverness beauty spot just a few hundred yards from her home.
The 24-year-old, named locally as Charlotte Hornby, is understood to have been returning to her family’s flat in Dores Road after a night out.
Forensics officers spent Monday afternoon examining an embankment near Ness Islands where the grim discovery was made on Sunday afternoon.
Officers were on guard at the block of flats throughout on Monday afternoon. Neighbours said they were shocked to hear of the tragedy.
Police yesterday described her death as “unexplained” and refused to give any further details.
Miss Hornby was educated at Fortrose Academy and St Andrew’s University and her parents, Harry and Patricia, run an accountancy consultancy. They live in Fortrose.
